India v England, 1st Test, Ahmedabad, 2nd day

Pujara and Spinners Put India on Top

Ahmedabad: India ended the Day 2 on a high as they took three quick wickets to leave England in tatters after the hosts declared their innings at 521/8 in the first Test at Motera in Ahmedabad.

Ravichandran Ashwin struck just before the stumps to give England first blow after India declared their first innings at mammoth 521/8 on Day 2 of the first Test.

Earlier, Cheteshwar Pujara showed great composure and hit a maiden Test double ton to power India to a mammoth total.

Pujara remained unbeaten on 206 and smacked 21 fours in his 389 balls stay at the crease. Pragyan Ojha was yet to open his account when the declaration came.

Pujara reached his Test double century in the second over after tea. Pujara achieved the landmark when he cut a James Anderson delivery to third man.

India lost their eighth wicket when Zaheer Khan edged a James Anderson delivery to Jonathan Trott at point.

Ravichandran Ashwin (23) fell in the third over after tea when he edged a Kevin Pietersen delivery to keeper Matt Prior to take the catch.

Graeme Swann (5-144) registered his 14th five-wicket haul when he dismissed Indian captain MS Dhoni before tea.

Swann hurled in a slow loopy off-spinner on the middle stump, Dhoni got down on one knee for a sweep across the line but failed to unfurl it well and it came off his gloves and rolled back onto the stumps. This is second five-for on the trot for Swann against India.

Pujara reached 150 after Yuvraj Singh hit a full toss from Samit Patel straight into the hands of Graeme Swann at long-on.

Displaying excellent temperament on his Test comeback, Yuvraj hit 2 sixes and 6 fours in his 74-run knock. This is Yuvraj's fourth fifty against England.

Making England toil hard, Pujara and Yuvraj took the Indian first innings to 410 for 4 at lunch.
