Paul Harris Announces Retirement

Johannesburg: Nashua Titans left-arm spinner, Paul Harris, announced on Tuesday that he will retire from cricket at the end of the 2012/13 season after a 14-year career at first-class level.

Harris made his first-class debut for Western Province during the 1998/99 season before joining the Nashua Titans in October, 2002. He briefly left the Nashua Titans for the bizhub Highveld Lions in 2009 but returned to the Easterns Titans franchise in 2010/11 season. He has played over 123 first-class matches during which he took 394 wickets at an economy rate of 2.70.

Harris represented South Africa in 37 Test matches and took 103 wickets at an economy rate of 2.65. He was part of the Proteas Castle Lager team that achieved the double of winning memorable Test series both in England and Australia in 2008.

Harris made the announcement at a team meeting: "I will be retiring from cricket at the end of the 2012/13 season. I would like to thank the Titans franchise for all the opportunities that they have given me over the past 10 years. I have made many friends through cricket and I have had so many great experiences. "

"I would like to thank all the people who have helped me over my career. A special mention must go to Richard Pybus, who had the biggest coaching influence on my career. I am sure that I would not have played for South Africa if it had not been for him," he added.

The Chairman of the Easterns Titans franchise, Mr Vincent Sinovich, said: "Paul has been a loyal servant to the game of cricket and has done the Nashua Titans and South Africa proud. On behalf of the Easterns Titans franchise, I would like to thank Paul for his contribution."
