Southee Move to Fifth in Latest ICC Rankings

Port-of-Spain: Tim Southee's wonderful performance in the first Test against the West Indies has propelled him into the world's top-five Test cricket bowlers.

New Zealand's pace spearhead climbed to a career-high fifth in the latest ICC rankings after his match haul of 6-51 helped NZ achieve their second Test victory in the Caribbean.

Before the first Test, Southee was ranked eighth in the world but he climbed three spots after this performance. The four above Southee are Dale Steyn, who remains No.1, followed by Ryan Harris, Vernon Philander and Mitchell Johnson.

The sixth spot is occupied by Saeed Ajmal while Rangana Herath and R Ashwin are in the seventh and eighth spot respectively. Debutant Mark Craig, who won the Man of the Match in his debut Test thanks to his haul of 8-188, is 53rd on the rankings for Test bowlers.

For West Indies, Shivnarine Chanderpaul has leapfrogged Kumar Sangakkara into second position in the rankings for Test batsmen. Chanderpaul scored an unbeaten 84 and 24 in Kingston, and he now trails top-ranked AB de Villiers by 41 ratings points.

Kane Williamson, who scored his sixth Test century, moved into the top-20 for the first time in his career.
