Leicestershire v Indians, Leicester, 2nd day

Wet Outfield Forces Washes-out 2nd Day

Leicester: Incessant rain washed out day two of a three-day warm-up between Leicestershire and the Indians at Grace Road on Friday. The tourists didn't waste any time though and practised indoors.

The visitors also declared their innings on their overnight score of 333 for 4, made possible by fifties from Shikhar Dhawan (60), Gautam Gambhir (54) and Chesteshwar Pujara (57) - the latter two retired out.

Medium pacer Atif Sheikh got the maximum mileage on the opening day as he hit Dhawan on the elbow, forcing the batsman to retire hurt. There are no official updates on the Sunrisers Hyderabad opener's injury as yet but going by the images from the indoor practice, India seem to have no reason to worry as Dhawan batted for a considerable period and looked comfortable.

The match lost its first-class status after Leicestershire agreed to the tourists' request to play as many of their 18-man squad as they wished. However, the visitors - coached by former England boss Duncan Fletcher - will only bat 11.

Leicestershire, right at the bottom of the two-division County Championship table and without a win in nine matches this season, fielded a second-string team against the mighty Indians.

India will play one more warm-up - against Derbyshire from July 1-3, before the first Test begins from July 9 at Nottingham.
