England v India, 1st Test, Trent Bridge

Anderson, Root break 10th Wicket Partnership Record

Nottingham: Joe Root and James Anderson broke the record for the highest 10th wicket partnership in Test history on day four of the ongoing first Test against England scoring 198 runs for the last wicket.

The duo went past the previous record of 163 runs made by Australia's Aston Agar (98) and Phil Hughes (81*) during the first Ashes Test at Trent Bridge last year.

Trent Bridge seems to be favouring the tailenders as the ground has seen three over 100-run partnerships for the 10th wicket in as many Test matches. On day two of the current Test, India's Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami had compiled 111-run stand for the 10th wicket to help India post an imposing total of 457.

After the Indian bowlers had reduced England to 298 for 9 in their first innings, Anderson joined Root it the middle and they got through a tough final session on day three unscathed scoring 54 runs between them.

England resumed day four at 352 for 9, trailing India by 105 runs and the duo looked at ease in the morning session against the India bowlers. Root notched up his fourth Test hundred while Anderson reached his maiden Test fifty in quick time. In the first ball of the 136th over, Root glanced a leg side delivery off Ravindra Jadeja towards fine leg to break the partnership record.

During the partnership, Anderson become only the second number 11 batsman for England to score a fifty and he also went on to register the highest score by an England number 11 batsman, going past Jon Snow's 59 which he made in 1966 against West Indies.

The stand was finally broken by Bhuvneshwar Kumar when he had James Anderson caught at first slip for 81. Root remained unbeaten on 154.
