Rain Washes out England-India 1st ODI at Bristol

Bristol: Rain causes the first ODI against India at Bristol to be abandoned without play, denying Alex Hales his debut.

The first one-day international between England and India at Bristol has been abandoned without any play due to rain.

England's Alex Hales had been due to make his international debut in the 50-over format, but spectators were denied the chance to see his new-look opening partnership with Alastair Cook.

The abandonment is a blow for the Nevil Road ground, which was set to host its first ODI since 2010.

The second ODI takes place on Wednesday at the Swalec Stadium in Cardiff.

Bristol is not scheduled to host another international match until 2016.
