Cobras v Knights, CLT20, Group B, Raipur
Williamson Ton Helps Northern Knights 4th Win
Raipur: Northern Knights beat Cobras by 33 runs on Duckworth-Lewis Method after incessant rain played spoilsport. Kane Williamson was declared as Man of the Match for his glorious century.
Trent Boult and Tim Southee underlined their customary threat with the new ball to leave Cobras on the mat.
When rain stopped game in the eighth over of the chase, the asking rate was already nearing 13 and saved Cobras from what was shaping to be an hour of minimising the margin of defeat.
Earlier, Northern Knights batsmen had Fortuna on their side as the team from New Zealand posted a mammoth 206 for 5.
Kane Williamson (101*, 49b, 8x4, 5x6) carried his bat, scoring his first T20 hundred off 48 balls that was also the fastest in CLT20 history. He broke Olago Volts' Neil Broom's record that came off 50 balls.
Openers Williamson and Anton Devcich started off badly with plenty of edges flowing all around. Both were dropped once each. Justin Kemp dropped Devcich in the fifth over while wicketkeeper Dane Vilas dropped Williamson in the eighth over.
Sandwiched between these drops, Hashim Amla took a great catch from the bat of Devcich on the long-off boundary but fearing he might bump into the rope he let go of the ball at the last moment.
The Kiwi team reached 100 in 10.4 overs, fastest this edition including the qualifiers. The openers added 140 as the Cobras fielders watched in dismay, and it needed a brilliant throw from Robin Peterson from the point region to break the stand as Devcich departed for 67 (46b, 8x4, 1x6).
After a brief period of success, things got back to square one for the South African team with the arrival of BJ Watling (32) who took 17 runs from the 16th over bowled by Kemp. Watling also was dropped by Omphile Ramela off Charl Langeveldt in the next over.
Earlier, Cape Cobras have won the toss and have opted to field.
Knights have made one change -- Dan Harris is out, he has a slight hamstring injury. Mitchell Santner is making his debut.
