Rohit Sharma Registers Highest Individual ODI Score

Kolkata: Rohit Sharma notched up his second double hundred in ODIs, becoming the first batsman to reach the landmark, and also sped past Virender Sehwag's 219 registering the highest individual score in ODIs getting out for 264 off 173 balls in the fourth ODI against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Thursday.

Rohit, 27, who had returned to competitive cricket after a fractured finger that he sustained in August, scoring a 111-ball 145 against Sri Lanka in a practice game ahead of the ODI series made the most of the opportunity given to him in the fourth ODI.

Regular opener Shikhar Dhawan was rested and opening in place of the Delhi batsman, Rohit played like a man on mission.

During his epic knock the opener hit 33 boundaries and nine sixes and scored runs at a strike-rate of 152.66. The knock also helped India notch up their fifth team score of over 400.

India eventually went on to make 404 for 5 with Virat Kohli being the second highest-scorer in the innings with 66.

Rohit surpassed the previous highest individual score of 219 set by Sehwag in 2011 against West Indies.

He though missed out on the becoming the highest individual scorer in List-A games, missing the landmark by just four runs. Ali Brown of England holds the record with the score of 268.
