New Zealand Clinch Nervy contest to Level Series 1-1

Dubai: Neesham and Mills picked three wicket each as New Zealand won the 2nd T20I by 17 runs to square the series 1-1 on Friday.

Set a challenging 145 runs to win Pakistan were bowled out for 127 in 18.5 overs.

Opener Ahmed Shezad top-scored with 33 while skipper Shahid Afridi made 28.

Jimmy Neesham and Kyle Mills took three wickets apiece.

New Zealand were lifted to 144-8 in their 20 overs by skipper Kane Williamson (32), Luke Ronchi (31) and Tom Latham (26).

For Pakistan, paceman Umar Gul finished with 2-24 and Afridi took 2-33.

Saad Nasim and Ahmed Shehzad shared a crucial 40-run stand before both fell in relatively quick succession.

The Blackcaps got wickets at regular intervals, but Shahid Afridi played a wonderful cameo and threatened to take the game away from the Kiwis.

Jimmy Neesham got Afridi in his third over to finish with three wickets, while Kyle Mills (3/26) recorded his career best figures in this format.

Ever since Anton Devcich got Sarfraz Ahmed in the very first over, Pakistan felt the pressure of the early wicket. Even though they managed to bat aggressively in patches, New Zealand were able to hold their nerve. Devcich struck back again by removing Hafeez in his second over.

Matt Henry joined the party and accounted for Haris Sohail to reduce the hosts to 24/3.

Pakistan won the first match -- also played in Dubai - by seven wickets on Thursday.

The two teams now play the first of five one-day internationals in Dubai on Monday.

Pakistan have two changes -- Mohammad Irfan and Awais Zia are resting, Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Gul back.

New Zealnad have four changes -- Tom Latham, Kylke Mills, Daniel Vettori and Dean Brownlie come in while Martin Guptill, Corey Anderson, Adam Milne, Mitchell McClenaghan rested.
