England Prosper After New Zealand Slander

Headingley: England limited New Zealand to 297-8 on the first day of the second Test at Headingley despite a fine 88 off 70 balls on debut from Luke Ronchi.

Ronchi added 120 in 24 overs for the sixth wicket with Tom Latham, who was dropped three times in making 84.

James Anderson's two early wickets saw him become the first England bowler to take 400 in Tests.

Stuart Broad had figures of 3-83 at the end of a rain-delayed day on which the Kiwis scored at 4.50 runs per over.

Mark Craig was 16 not out and Matt Henry 14 not out after Test debutant Luke Ronchi (88) and Tom Latham (84) put on 120 for the sixth wicket following a washed-out first session.

England lead 1-0 in the two-match series following their 124-run win at Lord's.
