India to Play Four Tests in West Indies in 2016

Mumbai: The West Indies cricket team’s decision to pull out midway from their tour of India in October 2014 had soured relations between the two boards, with the BCCI claiming damages amounting to nearly $ 42 million.

But the year- long impasse between the two ended on Thursday when the BCCI decided to resume bilateral ties with a tour of the West Indies in mid- 2016.

West Indies Cricket Board president Dave Cameron confirmed in a press release that he had a discussion with BCCI chief Shashank Manohar and that India will play four Test matches in the Caribbean in July- August.

But the agreement is subject to the WICB and the West Indies Players’ Association ( WIPA) giving a joint commitment to complete, at a later date, the tour which prematurely ended in India last year.

A senior BCCI official said discussions were on for a while before giving the series the go- ahead.

Talks took place prior to the fourth Test between India and South Africa in the Capital in the first week of December, and it was a case of finding the window since India has a hectic schedule with the IPL following the ICC World T20.

In 2014, the West Indian players had cited the failure of the WIPA and WICB to resolve disputes arising from the Memorandum of Understanding and Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) signed by the two parties in September of that year.
