New Zealand v Pakistan, 2nd T20, Hamilton

Guptill, Williamson smash Pakistan with Eecord stand

Hamilton: Martin Guptill (87*) and Kane Williamson (72*) scores 171 run unbeaten stand setup ten wicket win against Pakistan in second T20 in Hamilton on Sunday.

The brilliant unbroken opening stand between Guptill and captain Williamson set Seddon Park alight.

Chasing Pakistan’s 168/7, Guptill smashed nine sixes and four boundaries in his 58-ball unbeaten 87, while Kane Williamson took just 48 balls to reach 72 not out, including 11 boundaries — both batsmen striking the ball beautifully to run at a 150 strike rate.

What's more, reaching the winning runs in the 18th over to level the three-match ANZ Twenty20s one-all, they made it look ridiculously easy.

Guptill and Williamson went past their previous best stand of 137 in BLACKCAPS T20 Internationals in the process, which they had made together against Zimbabwe in 2011/12.

Then, with a boundary when just two more rune were required for the win, they broke the world mark of 170 that, until tonight, had been held by South Africa's Graeme Smith and Loots Bosman, set against England in 2009/10.
