ACC Looks for Venues for Next Asia Cup

Karachi: The Asian Cricket Council has been forced to turn to India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as possible venues for the next Asia Cup ODI tournament after broadcasters and sponsors rejected Malaysia as a possible venue.

The ACC is planning to host the Asia Cup later this year and at the last meeting of the executive committee, Malaysia and China were discussed as possible hosts.

"Malaysia was a front runner but due to the weather problems there in the time slot we want to hold the tournament and because the broadcasters didn't show interest in having the event in Malaysia we have changed our plans," ACC President, Ejaz Butt said.

He said now a special committee was working under the chairmanship of BCCI secretary N Srinivasan to finalise the venue for the tournament.

"We are now looking at India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as possible venues, the committee will decide which country would be best suitable to host the competition," he said.

Pakistan hosted the last Asia Cup in 2008 in Karachi and Lahore but since then the volatile security situation in the country has brought international cricket to a halt.
