Champions Trophy 2008 Not To Be Relocated

London: Next month's Champions Trophy in Pakistan will be cancelled rather than relocated if security and safety conditions deteriorate significantly, ICC chief executive Haroon Lorget. "I think the time has passed for a venue shift", Lorgat said after discussing security concerns with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

"I think we have got to a position where it is very difficult to do it at a level which we are used to. As far as ICC is concerned the safety and security is satisfactory. There will be presidential level of security for the players. We expect the best teams to participate."

He also said the resignation of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Monday ahd made no difference to the ICC's position.

Australia to boycott events?
Sydney: According to the Australian, attempts to allay Cricket Australia's (CA) concerns over security appear to have failed. Australian Cricketers Associations (ACA) chief executive Paul Marsh said the powerful player union could not support Australia's participation in the event. The ACA has discussed the situation with its executive and our position is we can't recommend to our players they should tour Pakistan for the Champions Trophy - told Marsh.
