Dhoni, Sachin May be Rested for Windies ODIs

Mumbai: Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar are almost sure to be given the much-needed rest ahead of Australia tour when the national selectors meet on Friday to pick the team for the first two of the five one-day internationals against the West Indies from November 29.

The selection committee, headed by Kris Srikkanth, will have to choose between Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir to captain the side in the first two games, to be played in Cuttack (Nov 29) and Vishakapatnam (Dec 2).

Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is almost sure of getting picked for the tough tour Down Under with stellar performances in the ongoing Test series against the Windies. However, his absence from the squad could pave the way for the forgotten Harbhajan Singh, whose vast experience could earn him a place in the side.

Though, left-arm orthodox spinner Pragyan Ojha is most likely to be top of the priority list. Dhoni's absence will open a chance for Parthiv Patel as a second choice stumper for the Test tour of Australia in December.

Those set to take their appointed places are Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Ajinkya Rahane.
