WICB President's XI v Australians, Bridgetown, Day 1

Harris and Beer Give Aussies Edge

Barbados: Australia are on top in their tour match with the West Indies Cricket Board President's XI after day one of the three-day clash in Barbados.

Paceman Ryan Harris and spinner Michael Beer both nabbed four wickets to dismiss the local side for 201, with Dwayne Smith the best of the batsmen hitting 62, before the tourists were 81-2 in response.

Opener Shane Watson made 42, partner Ed Cowan fell for 12, with Michael Clarke (11) and Ricky Ponting (eight) the not out batsmen overnight.

Harris said the pitch did not over much in terms of grass, but it did not stop the strike bowler from throwing his name in the selectors' ring for first Test selection.

"It was still probably conventional (swing) then (after lunch). It was probably my last 3-4 overs at the end it sort of started going reverse. I think the ball got changed," Harris said.

"Where I got the wickets it was still going normal, it was just good to be able to run in, I was just trying to bash the wicket and bowl straight. Lucky enough they missed the straight one so it was good."

But despite his good form, the South Australian still feels he will be on the outer for the first Test, starting on Saturday at Kensington Oval.

Harris said strike trio James Pattinson, Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus - the same three that tore apart India on home soil - will start at Bridgetown.

Harris took 11 wickets in two Tests on the tour of Sri Lanka in August-September last year, and he believed similar pitches in the West Indies would favour him to do likewise if he was to picked in the XI.
