India - South Africa 1st Test Delayed by Rain

Centurion: The start of the first cricket Test between India and South Africa on Thursday was delayed due to a wet outfield.

The toss which was supposed to take place at its scheduled time, but it did not happen due to persistent rain since last night.

Overcast weather with a chance of rain was predicted through to Thursday although the sky is expected to clear over the weekend.

There was a good covering of grass on the pitch and both the teams would like to make use of the strip and the weather conditions.

But, India's pace attack may suffer a blow as Zaheer Khan has a hamstring injury and is unlikely to start in the Centurion Test. In his absence the onus falls on S Sreesanth and Ishant Sharma, so captain MS Dhoni has to make a choice on Thursday between debutants Jaidev Unadkat or Umesh Yadav or extra spinner.
