Kallis, Amla Move up in ICC Rankings

Dubai: South Africa's Jacques Kallis and Hashim Amla moved up in the International Cricket Council's players rankings following their impressive performance in the first Test against India in Nagpur.

Kallis, who scored 173 in the match, gained four places to be at fourth position. He is now just ahead of his captain Graeme Smith, who slipped three places to fifth.

Amla broke into the top-10 in the rankings for the first time in his career following his magnificent 253 not out in the first innings, which help to set up South Africa's victory in the first Test at Nagpur by an innings and six runs.

Amla, who is at 10th place, is just three rating points behind Sachin Tendulkar, who notched up his 46th Test century in the second innings.

India's Gautam Gambhir is still leading the top spot in rankings followed by Sri Lankan pair of Mahela Jayawardena in second position and Kumar Sangakkara in third.

In the rankings for Test bowlers, left-arm spinner Paul Harris, who took four wickets in the match, including the prize scalp of centurion Tendulkar in the second innings, moved up three places to ninth spot while off-spinner Harbhajan Singh dropped four places to 12th.

Dale Steyn, who took match haul of 10 wickets in Nagpur, increased his lead at the top of the rankings.

Ishant Sharma, who went wicketless in the match and as a result drops seven places, out of the top 20 to 22nd position.

There are no changes in the top five of the rankings for Test all-rounders with Kallis leading the charts, followed by New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori in second and England's Graeme Swann in third position.
