Mathew Hayden Dropped From ODI, Twenty20 Squads

Melbourne: Matthew Hayden is clinging to his international career after being told he is not in Australia's limited-overs plans. Hayden, who had an awful Test summer of 149 runs at 16.55, was omitted as the selectors looked to players who could be part of the World Twenty20 in England in June and the 2011 World Cup.

National Selection Panel Chairman Andrew Hilditch made it clear the teams were chosen with an eye on the Twenty20 World Cup later this year and 2011 ODI World Cup while hinting he could not see Hayden playing a role in the two major events.

"The announcement of these squads for the KFC Twenty20 Internationals and the Commonwealth Bank Series is a clear indication we are now in full-scale planning for the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 and the 2011 ICC World Cup," Hilditch said.

Michael Clarke will miss the shorter games due to ligament damage to his right thumb, which he sustained during the first Test in Perth, but is hopeful of being fit for the ODI campaign. Mitchell Johnson has been rested until the third CB Series fixture due to his heavy workload since the India tour.

Twenty20 Squad: Ricky Ponting (c), Shaun Marsh, Michael Hussey (vc), Cameron White, David Hussey, James Hopes, Ben Hilfenhaus, Nathan Bracken, Brad Haddin (wk), Shaun Tait, David Warner, Ryan Harris, Nathan Hauritz.
