Christchurch: A superb match needed a Super Over to split the teams and New Zealand prevailed to repay Brendon McCullum for his amazing century.

The scores were tied on 214 after 40 overs before Tim Southee delivered another tight over to allow only six runs from the tie-breaker. Shaun Tait's waywardness helped the locals and Martin Guptill finished the game with a four over point.

Michael Clarke organised Australia's chase with 67 from 45 and Cameron White provided some much needed muscle with 64 off 26, but the visitors were unable to reproduce the lusty hitting in the Super Over.

Earlier, New Zealand have finished with a massive 214 for 6 at the end of their 20 overs after winning the toss and elect to bat first. Brendon McCullum was in the spotlight for becoming only the second batsman ever to score a century in T20 Internationals.

He finished unbeaten on 116 off just 56 balls with 12 fours and 8 sixes. Garteh Hopkins did well to support him in the middle of the innings as the pair added 68 off just 30 balls for the fifth wicket.

McCullum became the second-highest scorer in a Twenty20 international with an unbeaten 116 as he muscled New Zealand to an important victory that levelled the two-game series.
