Mortaza Save Follow-on For Bangladesh, SL Lead 189

Chittagong: Sri Lanka lead by 189. The story of the day was undoubtedly the 63 run stand between Mortaza and Shahadat which thwarted Sri Lanka's hopes of enforcing the follow on. Sri Lanka are still very much in command but will have to be careful not to collapse like they did this morning.

Spinners Ajantha Mendis and Muttiah Muralitharan shared seven wickets to bowl out the hosts for 208 in their first innings in reply to Sri Lanka's strong 384.

It was Mortaza who spared Bangladesh the ignominy of following on, adding 63 for the last wicket with Shahadat Hossain (five not out) after they were reeling at 145-9.

In morning Bangladesh bowloers dismissed the visitors after they had added just 13 runs in 4 overs to their overnight total of 371-6. Shakib picked three of the four remaining wickets to finish with 4-109. Left-arm spinner Shakib triggered the collapse, trapping Chamara Kapugedera lbw in the sixth ball of the day after the batsman added only three runs to his overnight 93.
