Mumbai: Laid low by a hit but still strong in his resolve, Mumbai Indians’ Kieron Pollard is on his way to recovery and keeping a keen eye on the forthcoming Airtel Champions League Twenty20 to be played in South Africa.
Resting at home in Trinidad on Thursday, the West Indian said he was confident of being fully fit in time for the event beginning Sept 10. "The recovery has been good so far. The swelling in my eye has gone down and I should be able to open my eye soon. Hopefully all will clear up in a couple of weeks," he said.
Pollard was hit on his right eye by a delivery from Dominic Cork while playing for Somerset Sabres against Hampshire in the Friends Provident T20 final at the Rose Bowl in England recently. "Even I was a bit worried when I saw my own picture in the newspapers but thankfully things have gone well. It was just a case of me missing the ball."
The burly 23-year-old, who swung into the big league of Twenty20 following his swashbuckling 18-ball 54 for Trinidad & Tobago against New South Wales on Diwali night in 2009 in Hyderabad, is now looking ahead to more heroics for the Mumbai Indians.
Bought for $750,000, Pollard showed glimpses of his brilliance in the third edition of the Indian Premier League under Sachin Tendulkar. "I haven’t spoken to our captain Sachin Tendulkar since the IPL final in Mumbai. I am looking forward to meeting him. I enjoy being a member of this side," Pollard said.
A man of many teams - Pollard plays for Trinidad & Tobago, South Australia, Stanford Superstars besides Somerset and the West Indies - the player says playing for Mumbai Indians makes him feel special.
