Scotland Build Slender Lead Against Afghanistan

Dubai: Scotland carved out a 105-run lead over Afghanistan with just four second innings wickets left on the second day of the Intercontinental Cup final on Friday.

After limiting the Afghans to 171, Scotland were struggling at 64 for 6 in their second innings at stumps after Samiullah Shenwari had taken 3-14 and Hamid Hassan claimed 2-25 to add to his five-wicket haul in the first innings.

Nawroz Mangal, the Afghanistan captain, top-scored for his team with 56, while Matthew Parker and Majid Haq took three wickets apiece to earn Scotland a 41-run first innings advantage.

"I think we had a good start with the bat and at two down we started to let things get to us and we retreated into our shell," said Scotland coach Peter Steindl.

Shenwari said he enjoyed his bowling.

"It was a good day for us as the captain and coach put me in to bowl and get the match back for us which I think I helped to do," said Shenwari.
