Scotland v England, Only ODI, Edinburgh

Scotland Captain Hamilton Relishes Against England

Edinburgh: Captain Gavin Hamilton has urged Scotland to showcase their talents in the one-day international with England in Edinburgh on Saturday.

The Scots are hoping the weather is kinder than two years ago when the ODI in the Scottish capital was washed out.

England all-rounder Luke Wright warned that the favourites would not take the Scots lightly at The Grange.

Hamilton, Ryan Watson and Kyle Coetzer return for Scotland after the trio missed the recent games against the Netherlands.

Dewald Nel misses through injury and top bowler Gordon Goudie is struggling to recover from a hamstring strain.

Neil McCallum and Ross Lyons join Hamilton, Watson and Coetzer as the only players remaining from the side that faced England two years ago.

Obviously, Scotland are underdogs and it's always dangerous coming up against teams who have nothing to lose

And the visitors bring a strong squad north of the border before embarking on a five-match series against Australia.

Of the 13-man England pool, only Ian Bell and captain Andrew Strauss were missing from England's World Twenty20 Cup-winning squad.

Team news

Scotland
captain Gavin Hamilton will return alongside Coetzer after they were forced out with injury leaving Scotland to field four debutants in the defeat to Netherlands on June 15.

Squad from
Gavin Hamilton (C), Gordon Drummond, Richie Berrington, Kyle Coetzer, Gordon Goudie, Ross Lyons, Majid Haq, Neil McCallum, Ryan Watson, Josh Davey, Douglas Lockhart (WK), Gregor Maiden, Preston Mommsen, Matthew Parker.

England have been experimenting against weaker opposition in the Test series against Bangladesh earlier this summer and their team could be dictated by how much they want to experiment again here. The top-order batting is settled but Ian Bell is back in the squad and could play if England feel Luke Wright is a place too high at six.

Squad from
Andrew Strauss (C), Ian Bell, Stuart Broad, Tim Bresnan, Kevin Pietersen, Graeme Swann, Michael Yardy, James Anderson, Paul Collingwood, Eoin Morgan, Luke Wright, Craig Kieswetter (WK), Ajmal Shahzad.

Pitch and conditions
The weather is rarely better than chilly in Edinburgh but the pitch could offer some runs if the new-ball threat is nullified.

Stats and trivia

  • Hamilton, Coetzer, Neil McCallum and Ross Lyons are the only four survivors from the Scotland team that played the inaugural match against England two years ago.
  • Craig Kieswetter will take the gloves for the first time in an ODI after playing as a specialist batsman in his first three ODIs against Bangladesh.
