New Zealand v Australia, 2nd Test, 2nd day, Hamilton

Seamers Back Aussies in Hamilton Test

Hamilton: After a poor batting performance by Australia yesterday, they have managed to bring the match on a level, restricting the Kiwis to a lead of 33 runs, which they have already knocked off. The light, as expected has not improved and the umpires have decided to call it a day. Tomorrow will be an early start by half an hour.

It could have been even better had all the catches on offer been taken. But, Ross Taylor, take a bow. He made use of all the opportunities given to him and blasted a 104-ball 138 to hand the hosts the lead. He also became the fastest centurion by a Kiwi in Tests and smashed Nathan Hauritz for 25 runs in one over, the most given by an Australian in Tests, jointly held by Andrew McDonald.

But apart from that, the Kiwis would feel that they lost a golden opportunity to bat once on this flat track. The cracks have already started appearing on the pitch and Australia would be hoping to bat better this time around, possibly the whole day tomorrow and bat New Zealand out of this Test match.

However, it will be a difficult task against the Kiwi bowling. The Kiwis would be looking to bowl out the Aussies tomorrow and chase a target under 200.

Brief scores
Australia:
231 & 35 for 0
New Zealand: 264 (Taylor 138, Johnson 4-59)
Status: Australia lead by 2 runs
