Tendulkar Cracks 45th Test Ton, India on Driver Seat

Mirpur: India's first four batsmen all scored half-centuries (including centuries by Sachin and Rahul) as the visitors cruised to 459-5 at stumps on the second day of the final test against Bangladesh on Monday.

Sachin Tendulkar was 143 and Rahul Dravid retire on 111 as the pair added 222 runs for the third wicket to help India move towards a big first innings lead after bowling out Bangladesh for 233 on the first day.

The hosts were left to rue two missed chances to dismiss Tendulkar with Raqibul Hassan dropping him at gully on 27 and 53 off the bowling of Rubel Hossain and Shahadat Hossain.

That followed Shafiul Islam missing a good chance to run out Dravid when the former skipper was on 12. The bowler failing to touch the ball that dismantled the stumps at the non-striking end with the batsman well out of his crease.

Dravid also escaped dismissal when on 28 as Zunaed Siddique caught him at slip of a Rubel Hossain no-ball.

Sachin Tendulkar (143) reached yet another milestone on Monday when he completed his 45th Test century as India tightened their grip on the second Test against Bangladesh on Monday.

Tendulkar went into the match having amassed 13,091 runs from 163 Tests at an average of 55.00 with the help of 44 centuries and 54 half centuries.

Tendulkar was dropped on 27 by Raqibul Hasan at gully off seamer Rubel Hossain before reaching his half-century with a firmly driven four off paceman Shahadat Hossain.

He scored his 44th century against Bangladesh in the first Test at Chittagong.

His record is equally impressive in ODIs with the batting great piling up a record 17,394 runs from 440 One-dayers, averaging 44.60 and including 45 centuries and 93 half centuries.

Earlier, Dravid was hit by a bouncer, he was looking to duck, the ball doesn't get too high, he is struck on the ear guard and retired after completed 29th Test hundred equalling Sir Don Bradman's records. He has been taken to the hospital for a precautionary checkup.

Resuming on 69-0, India lost Sehwag in the seventh over when the opener reacted slowly to a short delivery off Shahadat and edged a catch to wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim.

Sehwag had added 15 runs to his overnight total before falling for 56 runs off 63 balls including eight boundaries. The dismissal brought to an end of 103-run opening partnership between Sehwag and Gambhir.

Gambhir was out in almost identical fashion off the bowling of Shafiul Islam after making 68 runs off 83 balls. This was the 11th consecutive test in which Gambhir had scored a fifty to equal the world record by West Indies' Viv Richards.

India lead the two-match series 1-0 after wrapping up a 113-run win in Chittagong on Thursday.
