UPCA Frets Over Stadium Rent for India-Sri Lanka Test

Kanpur: Having bagged the right to host an India-Sri Lanka Test match next month, the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association is now worried about the hefty rent it might have to give the state government to use the Green Park stadium.

The Green Park stadium belongs to the state government and the UPCA had to shell out Rs one crore to use the stadium for last year's one-dayer between India and South Africa.

The UPCA has bagged one of the three Tests against Sri Lanka scheduled next month but officials are worried about a similar or bigger amount being demanded this time around.

"We are very concerned about the money the state government might ask for holding the match here. I hope the government understands the financial problems we face and how difficult it would be for us to organise the match if a huge amount is asked for as rent," UPCA joint secretary P D Pathak said.

"A UPCA delegation will meet government officials soon in Lucknow to discuss the issue," he added.
