Lahore: Pakistan coach Waqar Younis wants the revival of India-Pakistan bilateral cricket ties and is looking forward to their clash in the upcoming Asia Cup in Sri Lanka.
Waqar said he and his team were excited at the prospects of playing against India after a gap of several months.
"It should be a great match as any contest between the two teams produces top quality cricket. It is unfortunate we are not playing against each other more often because Indo-Pak matches are watched by people all over the world and they are great for the sport," he said.
The two teams are due to clash on June 20 in Dambulla while tournament is kicking off on June 15 with a clash between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
Waqar said his players were keyed up for the big match and would go all out against the traditional rivals.
"I have always enjoyed playing against India because the cricket rivalry brings out the best in players from both sides. It is important to have bilateral contests for the betterment of cricket in both countries," he said.
Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi also supported the views of his coach.
"I have always enjoyed playing against India because it is a special match and I have been saying we should play more often against each other it will only help improve relations," Afridi said.
Pakistan and India last played in the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa in September 2009. BCCI has frozen the bilateral cricket ties with Pakistan since the Mumbai attacks in Nov, 2008.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has been pushing for revival of bilateral cricket ties and have even offered to play at neutral venues but have received no positive response from the BCCI.
