Watson and Katich Steady Start For Australia

Adelaide: Australia reached 174-0 at stumps on the second day of the second Test in response to the West Indies' impressive first innings total of 451. Shane Watson (96) and Simon Katich (71) made a bright start with the home team 277 runs behind on Saturday.

Earlier, Brendan Nash was dismissed eight runs short of his second Test century, ending a dogged fight from the touring batsmen. The number 11 batsman Ravi Rampaul remained unbeaten on 40 as the tourists added more than 100 to their overnight score.

Mitchell Johnson took three wickets while Doug Bollinger, Watson Nathan Hauritz took two wickets each with Peter Siddle snared one West Indies wicket.

After Dwayne Bravo's 104 set up the visitors on the opening day, West Indies lost Darren Sammy (44) on the first ball of the day but crossed 400 and batted through to lunch.

Meanwhile, umpire Mark Benson was taken ill overnight and has been replaced on the field by Asad Rauf.
