Australia v West Indies, 3rd Test, 1st Day, Perth

Windies Make Three Changes as Australia Bat

Perth: Australia, who won the toss and batted, were boosted by the inclusion of Nathan Hauritz but West Indies lost two first-choice batsmen for the deciding third Test in Perth. The visitors were forced to bring in Travis Dowlin, Narsingh Deonarine and Gavin Tonge, who will make his debut after Shivnarine Chanderpaul (finger) and Adrian Barath (hamstring) failed to prove their fitness while Darren Sammy was dropped.

It is a crucial match for Chris Gayle's side as they attempt to prove their strong showing in the draw in Adelaide was not a one-off revival. They were defeated in three days in the opening game but can level the series with a victory at the WACA, although the hosts will retain the Frank Worrell trophy whatever the result.

Australia, who lost Peter Siddle on the eve of the match, have given a baggy green to Clint McKay and he will link up with Mitchell Johnson, Doug Bollinger and Hauritz. Brett Geeves and Steven Smith were called into the squad as cover but were not needed once Hauritz proved the finger he hurt at training on Tuesday was fine.

The weather in Perth was fine with temperatures expected in the mid to high 20s. Both teams are hoping the pitch has regained some of its famous bounce for the crucial encounter.

Final squad

Australia: Shane Watson, Simon Katich, Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Hussey, Michael Clarke, Marcus North, Brad Haddin (wk), Mitchell Johnson, Nathan Hauritz, Clint McKay, Doug Bollinger.

West Indies: Chris Gayle (capt), Travis Dowlin, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Narsingh Deonarine, Dwayne Bravo, Brendan Nash, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Sulieman Benn, Ravi Rampaul, Gavin Tonge, Kemar Roach.
