Younus Embroils Into Argument with Media

Karachi: Highlighting his growing frustration over the prolonged loss of form, former Pakistan captain Younus Khan on Saturday got embroiled into an argument with a journalist during a domestic match at the national bank sports complex here.

Younus, playing for Habib bank in the Pentangular Cup, suffered another batting failure when he was out for just seven runs.

Smarting from yet another poor show, Younus lost his control when a journalist asked the bank manager Liaquat Ali to inquire whether the senior batsman would like to speak to the media or not.

But things heated up shortly after Liaquat had gone to the dressing room top ask whether Younus would like to speak to the waiting reporters.

"What do you want to talk about? I have done nothing and I don't want to talk to the media right now," an agitated Younus said to the journalist appearing at the open window of the dressing room.

The journalist reminded Younus that being a former captain anything he said about the Australian tour could make a big story to which the senior batsman said, "When I score a century and when I hit form I will talk to you guys."

To add to Younus' problems, the Pakistan Cricket Board earlier this week also rejected a request from captain Mohammad Yousuf to rush him to Australia before the second Test in Sydney as the national selectors insisted that they want him to strike some form in domestic cricket before recalling him to the national team.

But former captain Aamer Sohail defended Younus' reaction at the ground.

"It is not right to disturb a player during a match and particularly when he is not in the best of form," Sohail noted.

For Younus the last two months have seen his career take a nosedive from being named Pakistan captain until the 2011 World Cup in early November to now finding it difficult to get his place back in the side.
