Originally, South Africa had been scheduled to play three Tests in Sri Lanka in July, but one of those Tests has been traded for a five-match ODI series and a T20I as preparation for the 2019 Cricket World Cup, the cricket boards of the two countries announced on Wednesday 4 April.

Sri Lanka won the 2-match Test series 2-0. South Africa won 5-match ODI series by 3-2. Sri Lanka won the one-off T20I match by three wickets.
