Colombo: Sri Lanka nameive quicks bowlers in 16-man Test squad for Australia series, Thisara Perera and Ajantha Mendis on standby

Nuwan Pradeep is one of five seamers in Sri Lanka's 16-man Test squad for the tour of Australia, starting next month.

Pradeep is the only addition to the team that is currently playing host to New Zealand in a two-Test series.

Uncapped spinner Tharindu Kausha has been omitted, while opener Dimuth Karunaratne remains in the fold following his debut last week.

Karunaratne made a duck in his first innings as a Test batsman, but bounced back with 60 runs in the second innings as Sri Lanka secured a 10-wicket victory over New Zealand in the opening Test.

Shaminda Eranga, Nuwan Kulasekara, Dhammika Prasad and Chanaka Welegedara are the other fast bowlers in the side, while Rangana Herath and Suraj Randiv will provide the spin options.

Herath starred against the Black Caps in Galle with a match haul of 11 wickets and is expected to lead the charge in the second Test, which gets underway in Colombo on Sunday.

Mahela Jayawardene will captain the team in Australia, with the first Test starting at Blundstone Arena in Hobart on December 14.

The second Test begins on Boxing Day at the MCG in Melbourne, followed by the third Test at the SCG in Sydney from January 3.
