The Final - Pakistan vs Sri Lanka
Lord's, London
Pakistan win by 8-wickets (with 1.2 overs remaining)
Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the finals of World Cup T20. Sri Lanka having won all the previous matches was the favourite to win the title. But, Razzaq and Afridi rose to the big occasion to hand victory to Pakistan. Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat. Dilshan, the highest run-getter in the tournament, was out in the first over for a duck. The Lankans also lost Mubarak and Jayawardena early. Sangakkara played a captain’s knock of unbeaten 64.

The team was tottering at 70 for 6, when Mathews joined his captain to partner him in a 68-run stand. Mathews notched up 35 runs. Sri Lanka scored 138/6. Razzaq claimed three wickets for 20 runs.
In reply, Pakistan started well with a 48-run opening partnership. Afridi came in at number 3 and batted sensibly to guide the team through. He paced his innings well, treating the ball on its merit. After Pakistan was 63/2, Malik came to the crease to support Afridi in an unbeaten stand of 76 runs for the third wicket. Afridi scored 54 off 40 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. It was a comfortable 8-wicket win for the team. Afridi was the man of the match. Dilshan, being the highest run-getter of the series, won the man of the series.
