Bangalore: Virender Sehwag has been named the captain of the Rest of India squad that will face Mumbai in the Irani Cup match at Mumbai from February 6th to 10th. The squad also features Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina and S Sreesanth among others.
Viru, who was recently dropped from the ODI side, has been under-fire for his poor form in the last couple of seasons. He has often indicated his desire to bat lower down the order in Test matches and it will be interesting to see if he will test himself in the middle order ahead of the Australia series.
The Irani Cup will also provide a chance for Kerala' seamer Sreesanth to test his match fitness ahead of a busy season ahead.
The selectors also named squads for the India 'A' side and the Board President's XI to face Australia in the warm up games. Tamil Nadu opener Abhinav Mukund will lead the Board President's XI side, while Delhi's Shikar Dhawan will lead the India 'A' side.
Test regulars who were part of India's ODI squads which faced Pakistan and England, including captain MS Dhoni, Gambhir, Virat Kohli, R Ashwin and Ishant Sharma have been given a break and are not part of any of the squads.
