Sachin, Pujara Takes India to 157/2

Mumbai: Sachin Tendulkar so far delivered what it was expected in his farewell Test as he remained unbeaten on 38 to take India to 157/2 at stumps, trailing by 25 runs, on Day 1 of the second Test.

Sachin and Cheteshwar Pujara had an unbeaten 80-run partnership for the third wicket after losing openers in quick succession.

West Indies's spinner Shane Shillingford gave India double jolt by dismissing Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay in one over.

A deafening roar greeted the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar as he walked out to a guard of honour in his farewell Test. Sachin got off to confident start as he smashed three boundaries in quick succession to take India past 100 runs.

Dhawan and Vijay started off well for India and went on to add 77-run for the first wicket to put India on course for the big first innings lead.

Earlier, Pragyan Ojha took five wickets as India bundled out the West Indies for 182 runs.

Indian captain MS Dhoni took his 250th catch to dismiss Tino Best off Ojha.

Ojha took his third wicket when he trapped Shane Shillingford plumb in front of the wicket.

R Ashwin dismissed Narsingh Deonarine and Darren Sammy in one over to pin down the West Indies.

Playing an irresponsible shot, Sammy looked to pull a delivery over mid-wicket but the ball went high up in the air for Rohit Sharma to take the catch.

Murali Vijay took a good catch at second slip to dismiss Narsingh Deonarine off Ashwin.

West Indies lost their fifth wicket when Bhuvneshwar Kumar had Shivnarine Chanderpaul caught by Ashwin at first slip.

Pragyan Ojha took his second wicket when he had Marlon Samuels caught by Murali Vijay at first slip. Ojha dismissed Kieran Powell in the third over after lunch by having him caught by Shikhar Dhawan at forward short leg.

Put in to bat, the West Indies were 93/2 in their first innings at the end of the first session.

Ashwin had Darren Bravo caught behind by captain MS Dhoni as the West Indies lost their second wicket. Mohammed Shami struck in the sixth over when he had opener Chris Gayle caught by Rohit Sharma at gully.
