India Back to No 1 in T20I Rankings

Dubai: On the day they slipped to fifth place in the ICC Test rankings, there was some solace for the Indian cricket team as it reclaimed the top spot in Twenty20 internationals in the latest adjustment to the ICC rankings.

India's move up from second place was a reflection of reaching the final of the recent World Twenty20 in Bangladesh, though they ultimately lost to Sri Lanka. On Thursday, they toppled Sri Lanka from the top spot.

India have lost just one T20I in the past 12 months - the World Twenty20 final. As per the ICC ratings, results for the 2013-14 season are weighted at 100 percent as compared to the past two years when it was 50 percent. This effected Sri Lanka's position at No 1.

On April 2, MS Dhoni's team had taken the top spot from Sri Lanka following an unbeaten run in the the World Twenty20.

West Indies dropped two places to seventh place in the ICC rankings for T20I teams, while Australia and New Zealand move up by one place each to be at fifth and sixth spots, respectively. In all, 14 teams have played sufficient T20Is to be ranked on the table.
