Masakadza Named New Zimbabwe Skipper

Harare: Hamilton Masakadza has been appointed Zimbabwe's new captain across all three formats following the resignation of Elton Chigumbura.

Chigumbura stepped down following Zimbabwe's Twenty20 series with Bangladesh, in which they fought back from two-nil down to draw 2-2.

Masakadza - who has played 29 Tests, 165 one-day internationals and 44 T20s since his debut in 2001 - steps up from his previous role as vice-captain.

Leg spinner Graeme Cremer will act as the 32-year-old's deputy going forward, with Zimbabwe Cricket managing director Wilfred Mukondiwa commenting: "Both Masakadza and Cremer are senior players who have shown their leadership abilities working with previous captains.

"We have no doubt they will be successful in their substantive posts, which come at a time when both are in the top 10 of the ICC T20 player rankings for batsmen and bowlers respectively."

Masakadza's first match as skipper will come at the World T20 in March, when Zimbabwe begin their campaign against Hong Kong.
