England v Sri Lanka, 3rd Test, Lord's, day 1

Bairstow's Century Helps England Recover

London: Jonny Bairstow's second century of the series helped England recover from another top-order collapse to reach 279-6 on day one of the third Test with Sri Lanka at Lord's on Thursday.

Bairstow joined Alastair Cook on batting duty after England had fallen from 56-0 to 84-4 on a benign wicket.

The Yorkshireman, who was dropped on 11, put on 80 runs with Cook before the latter was trapped lbw for 85.

He was unbeaten on 107 at the close, with Chris Woakes 23 not out.

England are aiming to complete a whitewash in the three-match series, having secured dominant victories in Leeds and Durham last month.
