England v West Indies, 1st Test, Lord's

Bairstow Debut as England Bowl First Against Windies

London: Jonny Bairstow makes his Test debut at No. 6 to become the 13th father-son combination to play Tests for England. He was awarded his cap before start of play during a lengthy discussion with Geoffrey Boycott, now Yorkshire president and a close family friend.

England omitted Steve Finn and Graham Onions for the first Test against West Indies at Lord's, a decision that their captain Andrew Strauss put down to some extent to the wet English spring.

Shannon Gabriel makes debut for West Indies after Ravi Rampaul was ruled out with a stiff neck. Gabriel comes into a four-strong pace attack after a successful domestic season for Trinidad. At 24, he remains "a raw talent" according to his captain Darren Sammy.
