Batsmen Keep India Steady, Trail by 309 runs

Mumbai: Rahul Dravid (82), Sachin Tendulkar (67*), Gautam Gambhir (55) and VVS Laxman (32*) played well as India ended day 3 at 281/3, trailing by 309 runs on Day 3 of the third Test against West Indies in Mumbai.

Tendulkar and Laxman were unbeaten on 67 and 32 respectively at the close of play with India still trailing by 309 runs with seven wickets in hand in reply to West Indies 590 all out.

Sachin Tendulkar hit his 63rd half-century shortly after the dismissal of Rahul Dravid on the third day.

Dravid hit a fluent 82-run knock before falling to part-time bowler Marlon Samuels.

Dravid hit 11 fours in his 82-run knock and added 86 runs with Tendulkar for the third wicket.

India ended the second session of the day at 172/2.

Dravid reached his 62nd half-century shortly after the dismissal of Gautam Gambhir.

Ravi Rampaul gave the West Indies the second breakthrough when he had Gambhir caught behind by Carlton Baugh.

Gambhir hit 8 fours in his 55-run knock.

This was after Dravid became only the second batsman in Test cricket to score 13,000 runs.

Dravid got to the milestone with a superb cover drive off West Indies captain Darren Sammy and it came shortly before Gautam Gambhir reached his 18th half-century.

India ended the first session of the day at 74/1.

Sammy gave the West Indies the first breakthrough when he clean bowled Virender Sehwag.

Sammy succeeded by setting a defensive field on the off-side against Sehwag who looked to hit an incoming delivery to the leg-side by playing across the line but the ball went through the gap between bat and pad.

Sehwag hit a six and 3 fours in his 37-run knock.

This is the third time in the series that Sammy has dismissed Sehwag.

Scoring briskly, Gautam Gambhir and Sehwag brought up the Indian 50 in the eleventh over.

Sehwag brought up the Indian 50 by hitting a six over the covers off Sammy.

Ashwin registered his second five-wicket haul in Test cricket by striking in the fourth over of the day as Bishoo played across the line and missed an arm ball.

The day's play started with Fidel Edwards and Bishoo resuming the West Indies first innings at 575/9.
