BCCI Likely to Discuss CWG OC Request on July 31

Kolkata: BCCI hasn't promised anything till now, but it may take up the issue at its working committee meeting on July 31 in Mumbai.

According to sources, OC is looking at the fact that the Australian cricket team would be playing matches in India during the same time as the Games (October 3-14) and he wants the BCCI to compensate the OC, as the TV ratings of the Games would suffer due to the cricket matches.

Sources said that the BCCI hasn't promised anything till now, but it may take up the issue at its working committee meeting on July 31 in Mumbai.

It was also learnt that the CWG organizing committee has set itself a target of generating Rs 1,700 crore for the mega event of which around Rs 1,600 is to be given back to the Union government.

As of now, the OC has collected Rs 250 crore from television rights and generated another Rs 400 crore from sponsorship deals.

When TOI got in touch with Kalmadi, he declined to comment on the issue. But board sources made it very clear that a verbal proposal has been given to the BCCI by Pawar.

"We have got nothing in writing from the OC. And the BCCI can't promise such a hefty fund till it's cleared by the working committee," a top BCCI official told TOI on Wednesday.

It was learnt that Pawar approached the board in his capacity as the president of the Mumbai Cricket Association.
