Bhajji Dropped From Test Squad, Sachin, Sehwag Back

Kolkata: Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh was ignored from the 15-member Indian squad that was named for the first Test against the West Indies on Friday.

Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and Yuvraj Singh were also named in the squad after missing the ODI series against England.

Though speculation was rife about the inclusion of Ravindra Jadeja, he was not named in the spinning trio of R Ashwin, Pragyan Ojha and Rahul Sharma.

India will play the first Test against the West Indies in Delhi from November 6 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.

The Krishnamachari Srikkanth-led selection committee that also includes Mohinder Amarnath, Surendra Bhave, Nardendra Hirwani and Raja Venkat, also named Virat Kohli in the Test squad at the expense of Suresh Raina, who they feel is best cut out for the slam-bang variety.

Rookies Umesh Yadav and Varun Aaron have been picked ahead of Praveen Kumar and S Sreesanth.

The surprise inclusion is Ajinkya Rahane who finds a place as a reserve opener, ahead of Murali Vijay and Abhinav Mukund.

Squad: MS Dhoni (captain & wk.), Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, R Ashwin, Pragyan Ojha, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Virat Kohli, Varun Aaron, Ajinkya Rahane, Rahul Sharma.
