India Opt to Bowl in First One-dayer

Cuttack: Indian captain Virender Sehwag won the toss and opted to bowl against West Indies in the first one-dayer at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.

After thrashing the West Indies in the Test series, India would look to continue their domination over the Caribbean side in the five-match one-day series.

India are a dominant force in the 50-over format and the world champions would aim for no less than a 5-0 whitewash, which they had inflicted on a strong England side recently.

Virender Sehwag has led the side in seven matches, winning four of them, though he is yet to get a half-century as a captain with 44 as his best score.

When Sehwag last captained India in place of Dhoni, the side had chased down Sri Lanka's 316 in Kolkata in 2009.

Sehwag says: The decision is driven by the dew that poured down early last evening. Viru is pleased to lead a young side, in which he happens to be the oldest member. Parthiv Patel will open with Sehwag, Rohit Sharma is in, while Aaron, Yadav and Vinay Kumar are the seamers. Sammy says he would have bowled too.
