Man Arrested Over Match-fixing Claims in Lord's Test is Bailed

London: British police say that a man arrested as part of an investigation into allegations of match-fixing by Pakistan players in their Test match against England has been released and bailed without charge.

Mazhar Majeed had been arrested as officers investigated claims that Sunday newspaper reporters paid a middle-man 150,000 British pounds ($232,000) in return for exact details relating to play during the Lord's Test match.

Police said Sunday that Majeed had been bailed to appear before police at a future date.

Pakistan players were questioned by police Saturday night after the News of the World newspaper alleged that bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were paid to deliberately bowl no-balls during Thursday's opening day of the fourth Test that England went on to win by an innings and 225-runs.

Team manager Yawar Saeed said that Asif, Amir and captain Salman Butt had their mobile phones confiscated by police, who also searched hotel rooms as part of an investigation also involving the International Cricket Council's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit.
