Michael Lumb Joins Queensland for Big Bash T20 Series

Sydney: England Twenty20 World Cup batsman Michael Lumb has agreed to join Queensland for Australia's T20 Big Bash series in January, team officials said on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old South African-born batsman was one of the stars of England's triumphant World T20 campaign in the West Indies earlier this year before suffering a broken foot in August playing for Hampshire.

Lumb, a left-handed opening batsman, also played for the Rajasthan Royals in this year's Indian Premier League.

"Michael is a very experienced cricketer, both at first class level and at T20, and we believe he will be a highly valuable addition to our squad for the Big Bash," Queensland Cricket chief executive Graham Dixon said.

Coach Trevor Barsby said when former England Test all-rounder Andrew Flintoff became unavailable Queensland moved for Lumb.

Lumb becomes the second English player to sign for an Australian state team this week after Lancashire fast bowler Sajid Mahmood joined Western Australia.

The Big Bash series, involving all six Australian states, runs from December 30 to the February 5 final.
