Mumbai's Malinga Pulls Off Miracle Win Over Chennai

Chennai: The injury-hit Mumbai Indians pulled off a miraculous win with Lasith Malinga's brilliant all-round show against Chennai Super Kings in the Champions League T20.

Malinga, having bowled a tight first spell of 1-7 in two overs, made an unbeaten 37 off 18 balls. He added 53 off 27 balls with captain Harbhajan Singh to chase down 159 at the Chidambaram Stadium.

Mumbai, who are without several of their first-choice players like Sachin Tendulkar, Munaf Patel, Dhawal Kulkarni and Rohit Sharma, were dead at 7-106 in the 16th over.

Malinga began his fightback with a couple of straight sixes in a Shadab Jakati over. He followed that up with one more off Albie Morkel, setting up the possibility of a win in the final over in which 11 were needed.

Malinga slashed Doug Bollinger for four through the vacant third-man before Harbhajan pulled him for another four to help complete the win with a ball to spare.

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings put in a polished batting effort to begin their title defence.

Chennai had to contend with Malinga's excellent spell. Malinga yorked opener Murali Vijay to give Mumbai the breakthrough in the fifth over. Next ball, he broke Suresh Raina's bat into two pieces with another fast, full delivery.

Hussey, after reaching a fifty off 43 balls, picked up the pace along with skipper MS Dhoni to take Chennai past 150.
