India v Australia, 2nd Test, Bangalore, 5th day

Pujara Guides India Complete Clean Sweep Against Australia

Bangalore: India beat Australia by 7 wickets in the second and final Test in Bangalore to win the two-Test series 2-0. This is the first clean-sweep by India against Australia.

India chased down the victory target of 207 runs just after tea with Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid remaining unbeaten on 53 and 21 respectively.

Tendulkar reached his 58th Test half-century with a boundary off Nathan Hauritz and also hit the winning runs.

This is India's first Test victory in 15 years in Bangalore.

Cheteshwar Pujara top scored for India in the second innings with a magnificent 72. Playing his debut Test and promoted to the number three spot in the batting order in the second innings, Pujara hit a 65-ball fifty to take India closer to victory.

Pujara's knock ended when he was clean bowled by Hauritz with a gem of a delivery.

This is India's first Test win in Bangalore since October 1995, when they beat New Zealand by eight wickets. In 19 Tests here, India have won five, lost six and drawn eight.

It's only the third time India have won all Tests in a series of two or more Tests (excluding series against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe). Their two earlier wins both came in the 1990s, when they achieved 3-0 margins against England (1992-93) and Sri Lanka (1993-94).

The last time Australia lost all the matches of a series was in 1982 in Pakistan, when they lost in Karachi (nine wickets), Faisalabad (innings and three runs) and Lahore (nine wickets).

It's also the first time Australia have lost three Tests in a row since November-December 1988, when they lost to West Indies in Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne."

Earlier, first innings centurion Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara took India to 73/1 at lunch after Virender Sehwag fell cheaply for seven.

Indian bowlers did a commendable job to bowl Australia out for 223 in 75.2 overs midway into the morning session at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Both Vijay and Pujara scored at a brisk pace of 6.08 run per over and have added 56 runs of 9.4 overs and they reached the 50 mark in 43 minutes of 8.2 overs.

Needing 207 of a minimum of 77 overs for a victory, India lost opener Sehwag to a bad shot selection but Vijay and Pujara ensured that no more damage is done to the home side.

Vijay was solid and ran for singles to give more strike to his partner Pujara who showed his aggressive intent early, particularly against spinner Nathan Hauritz.

Pujara was stroking well except an uppish shot and was lucky as the ball fell short of Australian captain Ricky Ponting at short midwicket.

Earlier, Australia set a victory target of 207 runs for India after pacers Zaheer Khan and Sreesanth polished off visitors' tail in the first hour of the opening session.

The Australians added 21 runs to their overnight score of 202 for seven and ended up being dismissed for 223.

Aussies lost three wickets this morning with Zaheer dismissing Mitchell Johnson and Peter George and Sreesanth scalping Hauritz.

Zaheer had a spell of 5.2-1-9-2 while Sreesanth had 5-1-8-1.

Zaheer was able to get the reverse swing quite often and succeeded in dismissing Johnson (11) in his fourth over of the first session. The ball jagged sharply off the pitch to take Johnson's off stump. The Australian added four more runs to his overnight score of seven.

In the very next over, Sreesanth, who was bowling menacingly, got success for his hard work. A totally dried up pitch was giving some movements and Sreesanth was able to beat the batsmen since morning time and again.

Sreesanth's full length delivery cut in after pitching on outside the off stump and the ball contacted Ben Hilfenhaus' pads before hitting the stumps.

Zaheer ended the Australian innings with a short ball that was gloved behind by Peter George (0), and Nathan Hauritz remained unbeaten on 21.
