Sunny Hopes Sachin Reaches 17K Today

Mumbai: The world is eagerly awaiting Sachin Tendulkar's monumental achievement of completing 20 years of international cricket next month. Sunil Gavaskar, though, has more immediate expectations: he wants Tendulkar to complete 17,000 runs in One-dayers in Nagpur on Wednesday.

Tendulkar will complete two decades at the highest level on November 15, since he made his debut against Pakistan in 1989. "There's a little time for Tendulkar's 20 years. First up he is nearing the tally of 17,000 runs in One-dayers. He needs only 83 more. Let's hope he reaches this milestone in Nagpur on Wednesday," Gavaskar said.

When pointed out that the Indian team has a few areas of concern, particularly the fielding, Gavaskar said, "You cannot blame a coach for this. If at all you have to blame anyone, then blame the coaches who train cricketers at the junior level. It is at those levels that the basics are not taught the correct way."

Gavaskar also reposed faith in the bowling abilities of Harbhajan Singh, who went wicketless at Vadodara. "He will surely bounce back. I am sure that he will be back to bowling his best very soon," he said.
