Yuvraj Singh Likely to Make Test Team for Windies

New Delhi: Yuvraj Singh is likely to be rewarded for his World Cup performance with a slot in the Indian Test team for the forthcoming tour of West Indies in June.

According to sources, the Indian cricket board is yet to fix the date of the selection, but in all probability the team will be picked before May 15.

Yuvraj lost his place in the Test team due to his poor form last year. "He started showing signs of coming back into form during the ODI series in South Africa and performed miraculously in the World Cup. He will certainly make it to the Test team," a BCCI source said on Thursday.

Meanwhile, it is not yet clear who all will skip the ODI series in West Indies, which starts right after the IPL. "The players who need rest have not informed BCCI yet," the source added.

BCCI has made it clear that it has no problem with some players' wish to take rest. However, BCCI has hinted that only two cricketers - Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni - can take their places in Indian team as granted. As for the others, they may lose their spots in the team if the replacements do well in the ODI matches in West Indies.

This looks like a veiled warning from the BCCI to the players - keep playing as long as you are fit. "It is very simple. Yuvraj flopped in the Test series in Sri Lanka last year and Suresh Raina took his place. But if Yuvraj is playing better cricket tomorrow, someone will have to make way for him," another source said.

It was also reliably learnt that if MS Dhoni decides to give the West Indies tour a miss, Parthiv Patel would be his replacement as he can also open the batting while Wriddhiman Saha could come into the Test team as the second wicketkeeper.
